Time Distortion Portal is a standalone application for reshaping audio in time and space. All effects are applied in reverse time, for mind-bending manipulation of sounds.
Drop in a sample (or auto import the most recently exported audio from your hot folder), chain together reverse reverbs, granular scatter, pitch shifting, spectral freezing, and modulation, and shape every parameter with a full automation engine; then export the result and drag it straight into your DAW.
Every effect runs in a reorderable process chain, so a shimmer reverb can feed a bode frequency shifter can feed a comb filter, in whatever order the sound calls for.
Work in Portal Mode for a super fast workflow: pick a preset, preview it, export it. Or open Advanced Mode for in-depth editing of every parameter in the DSP engine, down to building your own source material from scratch with the built-in signal generator.
Every one of these was made in Time Distortion Portal, with nothing else in the chain.
Almost every parameter in Time Distortion Portal can be automated, and the envelope editor is built to match. Draw freehand, or snap straight lines, ramps and curves against the waveform with grid resolution down to 1/32 and adjustable slew for anything from stepped to silky.
Two curve engines: Standard for exact control, or the unique Attractor mode for organic, EQ curve style movement. Four randomisation styles, full reverse, invert, stretch, copy/paste and undo control, and MIDI import to build lanes straight from note, pitch bend and CC data.
Slice your sample into up to 32 pieces, then shape every slice independently in the full-screen editor. Set each slice to play forward or reverse, dial in tempo-synced trigger rates with triplet and dotted subdivisions, or hit Randomise to generate a complete slice-and-effect pattern in one click.
Four automatable FX lanes run per slice: high-pass and low-pass filtering, sample-rate crushing, and stereo width, each with its own drawable envelope.
Curve mode turns playback speed into something you draw. Diagonal lines play forward at normal speed, a flat line stops the sample, and a downward slope throws it into reverse. Easily draw scratch moves, reverses, and speed ramps as shapes on the curve.
Individual slice and sampler instrument export: easily export the slices and add them to your favourite sampler.
Fifteen DSP modules, each with deep parameter control and automatable envelopes.
Four reverse-reverb algorithms (Schroeder, FDN, plate and IR convolution) for swells that build into the hit instead of trailing after it.
Echoes that arrive before the source, with ping pong or L/R/C modes, reverse taps and filters.
Shatters audio into reversed grains for textured, smeared reconstructions.
Pitch-shifted reverb tails that lift a sound into ethereal, octave-stacked space.
Independent pitch and time-stretch control for warped, otherworldly playback speeds.
Locks a slice of spectrum in place and holds it, turning a transient into a drone.
Morphs audio through vowel formants for talking, singing textures, with formant shifting, resonance, feedback and stereo spread.
Linear frequency shifting for inharmonic, bell-like and metallic tones.
Resonant comb filtering with MIDI-driven automation, reverse processed so the micro-delays ring out before the transient.
Stacked comb filters for dense, ringing resonances.
Tone-shaping filters and curve EQ for sculpting the spectral balance.
Stereo widening and modulation tools for placing sound in space.
Saturation and waveshaping, from subtle warmth to full breakup.
Up to eight detuned voices with tempo syncing, depth and stereo width, for lush, animated doubling.
Ring modulation with stereo modulation, multiple carrier shapes and LFO tempo sync, for clangorous, sideband-rich tones.
Any effect can feed any other, so you can reorder the signal path to find the combination that works.
Factory and custom presets, importable and exportable, organised into packs you can filter and favourite. Further packs are on the way.
